The Indaba Hotel Fourways stands today as one of Johannesburg’s most iconic destinations, blending history, elegance, and modern luxury. Its story began in 1952 as the 14-bedroom Little Roseneath Hotel, catering to weary travelers and the Johannesburg elite with a warm country house atmosphere. Over the decades, the hotel has evolved alongside the city itself, reflecting the changing tastes and expectations of its guests. From humble beginnings with a small bar and restaurant famous for Sunday lunches, it became a popular escape for families and visitors from surrounding areas, including those arriving on horseback from the local “mink and manure” belt. Today, the hotel boasts 250 bedrooms, 24 conference rooms, two restaurants, a Gin Sensorium, a Wine Tasting Room, and the award-winning Mowana Spa, maintaining its reputation as a tranquil oasis in the bustling heart of Fourways.

A Legacy of Growth and Hospitality

Throughout its history, The Indaba Hotel has passed through several ownerships, each adding its own character and charm. In the 1970s, Madame Stathakis, a vibrant Greek entrepreneur, purchased the property and renamed it Mon Repos, meaning “My Rest.” She expanded the offering with an A La Carte restaurant, now known as Ndaba Palace, which became a preferred venue for weddings and intimate gatherings. Subsequent owners, including an American company and Barclays Bank, invested in major refurbishments, adding 120 bedrooms, 22 conference rooms, and a state-of-the-art auditorium. The current owners, African Procurement Agencies, led by Rob Mickel and Fanie Botha, transformed the property into a landmark conference and leisure destination, adding features such as Chiefs Boma African Restaurant, the Gin Sensorium, Tasting Room, and the Kgotla Conference Venue. The hotel now combines business efficiency with a relaxed, country-style ambiance, creating a space that caters to both corporate guests and leisure travelers seeking comfort and elegance.

A Modern Oasis with a Rich Heritage

Today, The Indaba Hotel Fourways is more than just a hotel; it is a dynamic hub for hospitality, business, and leisure. Its facilities include 250 well-appointed bedrooms, including luxury and junior suites, multiple restaurants, and diverse conference venues capable of hosting large-scale events or intimate gatherings. Part of the Indaba Hospitality Group, the hotel shares a family-owned ethos with sister properties in Botswana and South Africa, including Chobe Safari Lodge, Indaba Lodge in Gaborone, and Nata Lodge. Under the continued leadership of Rob Mickel and Fanie Botha, the hotel remains committed to excellence, sustainable employment, and delivering memorable experiences to every guest. By marrying its rich heritage with modern innovation, The Indaba Hotel Fourways has become a symbol of enduring hospitality—a perfect “home away from home” for business and leisure travelers alike.
